The Corne keyboard is a unique, minimal, feature packed, and very popular split mechanical keyboard, designed by the amazing footsan.

This partially assembled PCB for version 3 of the MX Corne features pre-soldered diodes, LEDS for per-switch RGB lighting and underglow RGB lighting, kailh mx hotswap sockets, reset button and trrs jacks. This is meant to make the process of assembling this keyboard easier.

Microcontrollers (pro micro, elite-c, etc...) and optional oled screens are purchased separately and need to be soldered onto the PCB.

This PCB is for Cherry MX compatible switches and the hotswap sockets provide a convenient way of installing these switches and swapping them out whenever you need to!

What's Included?

  • 2 PCBs
  • 42 pre-soldered surface mount diodes
  • 42 pre-soldered SK6812MINI-E RGB LEDs (per-switch RGB lighting)
  • 12 pre-soldered WS2812B RGB LEDS (underglow lighting)

Great board for beginners to custom keyboard fabrication

This kit was super easy and simple work with, and the owner of this store has a supporting video that walks you through the entire process.

Before building my Corne v3 keyboard, I had zero experience with soldering PCBs or flashing firmware. I watched the supporting video (which also included info and links for tools I would need), ordered my tools and parts and got to work.

It was a bit nerve-wracking because the parts are tiny, but thankfully the only things you need to solder are the largest pieces on the board, the microcontroller, hot swap sockets, reset buttons, and trrs jacks. It does take time, but a LOT of work and problems are saved by buying the partially assembled board, no need to mess with diodes/LEDs.

That said, one of my boards had a minor factory defect in that one LED wasnt attached well, which caused all the LEDs after it to behave strangely. Fortunately, the owner of this shop was kind enough to first offer to a new PCB free of charge, but also help me troubleshoot the issue with the current board so I wouldnt waste all the work I did or have to wait for the new board to be delivered.

After listening to the issue, he knew immediately what was wrong and offered advice on a fix. I tried it and it worked!

The keyboard works, looks, and feels great, I couldnt be happier with it. Get this kit if you like typing on keyboards more than making keyboards.
